Do you go to the fast food drive thru
like clock work every day after work to pick up dinner for your
kids? Do the people at the restaurant already know what you're
going to order or do they call you by your name? If so, you
need to be sure to keep reading this article.
Fast food and processed foods are
increasingly causing our children to become overweight and obese.
A healthy diet is so important, even at a young age. Long term
bad eating habits that originate during childhood years and continue
on through to adulthood is one of the factors in developing a
chronic illness such as heart disease and cancer in later adult
years. It's really important that you help your child make
healthy food choices.
Healthy eating habits must start early
so that it becomes a routine part of life that carries over into
adulthood. Many parents don't see childhood obesity as being
very serious, but it is. Haven't you ever heard someone say
that "junior is just short and when he grows taller, he'll slim
down" or "Tiffany still has some baby fat, she'll slim down when she
gets older"? These excuses are what helps to increase the rate
childhood obesity. About 25% of American children are
overweight, with about 10-15% being obese.
In addition to eating healthy, kids need
to be more active. It is important to teach our children the
importance of exercise. There are several different ways to
incorporate exercise in fun ways also. For example, go out on
a beautiful day and go to the park, go skating, or just hop out in
you own backyard and play hide and go seek. These are fun and
inexpensive ways to get your child active. Local community
colleges usually have activities for kids-especially in the summer.
They usually have basketball camps and other sports available.
Making the extra effort to get your kids active will pay off for
both you and your child in the long run.
